K-Beauty 10-Step Skincare Routine: Does It Really Work?
The Korean skincare philosophy that has taken the whole world by storm and the 10-step routine adapted for all skin types.
The Korean skincare philosophy aims to truly improve the skin rather than covering it up with makeup. For this reason, a routine that appears complex like 10 steps is actually designed to make the skin independent from makeup in the long run.
Steps 1-2: Double cleansing. An oil-based cleanser followed by a foam or gel cleanser is used to completely remove makeup, sunscreen, and sebum accumulated throughout the day. This is the most neglected but most important step.
Step 3: Toner. Unlike Western astringents, the purpose of Korean toners is not to tighten the skin but to hydrate it. Thin, almost water-consistency essence tonics pave the way for better absorption of subsequent steps.
Steps 4-5: Essence and serum. Essence is a magical layer between toner and serum. Essences containing fermented ingredients support the skin's own renewal mechanism. Then targeted serums are applied.
Steps 6-8: Sheet mask (2-3 times per week), eye cream, and moisturizer, followed by Steps 9-10: a sleeping mask at night and always SPF during the day. For adaptation: lighter layers work in humid climates, while richer moisturizers suit drier conditions.
Preparing your skin for cosmetic applications is the biggest factor determining the longevity and smoothness of the products. Skincare applied on clean, well-hydrated skin retains its fresh appearance all day long.
Consistency is the most important rule in beauty and skincare routines. Instead of one-time applications, regularly using products suitable for your skin type will yield the healthiest long-term results.
Don't forget the philosophy of beauty from the inside out. Adequate water consumption, a balanced diet, and regular sleep will double the effect of all cosmetic and care steps you apply.
